Master of Science in Analytics

WHY NTU MSA (Master of Science in Analytics)

  • A course that combines the best of academics with challenging practical applications on real life analytics projects
  • Guaranteed internship with one of our reputable collaborating partners

The growing demand for talent in the area of data analytics in Singapore has been widely recognized by government agencies such as Infocomm Development Authority (IDA), the Economic Development Board (EDB), and the Workforce Development Agency (WDA), as well as various industries.

The proposed MSA programme is part of the Analytics strategic initiative of the School of Physical & Mathematical Sciences. As part of this initiative, a new Business Analytics track for the BSc Mathematical Sciences programme already has been implemented in AY12.

The aim of the proposed Master of Science in Analytics (MSA) programme is to provide graduate students with robust training in analytics skills. In addition, the MSA programme will be a pioneering effort in graduate level cohort-based learning in Singapore in line with the Blue Ribbon Committee (BRC) recommendations at NTU. The programme is interdisciplinary and will involve faculty from the School of Physical & Mathematical Sciences, School of Computer Engineering, and Nanyang Business School.

The MSA is an intensive 1-year programme by course work, which provides solid foundations in statistics, optimization, and data analysis, as well as exposure to software systems, practical applications, and case studies. The programme aims to attract both fresh graduates and working adults who have degrees in quantitative majors in science and engineering.

The graduation requirement for the programme is a total of 30 AU with 24 AU coming from core courses and 6 AU from elective courses. The course strongly emphasizes on application of skills and knowledge on real live data and has two Practicum modules of 6 AU each under both the core and elective modules.

As part of the course roll out, we have signed MOU with the following companies as our collaborating partners:-

- PricewaterhouseCoopers
- Charles and Keith Group Pte Ltd
- Breadtalk Ltd
- JR Group Holdings Pte Ltd

We intend to sign MOU with a few more such companies. Our students will be attached to one of our collaborating partners as interns during their practicum.

The programme started in 2015 with a small cohort. Over the years it has grown in size as the programme become more mature. For AY2017/2018, the programme targets to take up to 40 students.
