Research Interest

The research programs in our laboratory combine chemistry, nanotechnology, and materials science approaches to develop functional nanostructures with novel catalysis, plasmonic and sensing applications. Our research activities involve nanoparticle synthesis, surface chemistry, self-assembly, nanopatterning, nanofabrication, and materials and device characterization.

Surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy for catalysis, sensing, and plasmonic studies

SERS spectroscopy is a unique molecule-specific detection technique that enhances the vibrational Raman scattering by adsorbing molecules on a plasmonic metallic structures. The SERS sensitivity has been reported to reach a signal enhancement factor of 1014, which showed the capability of single-molecule detection. Our goal is to incorporate SERS for catalysis, sensing and plasmonic studies. We aim to perform study on the fundamentals and applications of catalysis, sensing, and plasmonic studies at real time, within nanometer range of spatial resolution and spectroscopically.
